What is Plein Air?
A plein air painting is done, not in the comfort of a studio, but outdoors in an attempt to capture the spirit
of the scene. Time is of the essence, as the changing light and weather conditions demand quick decisions,
accurate color interpretations and lively brushwork. The artist responds to his personal interpretation
of the energy and emotion of the moment, while employing his understanding of design and composition.
If the artist is successful, the result is a painting that is expressive and full of feeling, rather than safe
and perhaps overworked. The painting is completed on site with just a few minor touches in the studio.
Digital reproductions on these web pages do not accurately reflect the true color and quality of the work.
All paintings are oil on archival canvas panel.
